Chicago Black Restaurant Week Runs Feb. 8-22
One Austin restaurant and four west suburban restaurants will participate this year

From Feb. 8 through Feb. 22, diners across the city and suburbs will celebrate Chicago Black Restaurant Week (CBRW), a two-week culinary festival spotlighting Black-owned restaurants and bars. Now in its 10th year, the event invites food lovers to explore special prix-fixe menus, signature dishes, and creative drink offerings while supporting local Black entrepreneurs and restaurateurs.
Created in 2016 by Lauran Smith, Chicago Black Restaurant Week grew from a desire to elevate and promote Black-owned food businesses across the region. The timing of the event is intentional. It always begins in early February to coincide with Black History Month and to honor the legacy of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, who founded Negro History Week, the precursor to what would become Black History Month, in 1926.
This year’s celebration carries added significance since it coincides with the 100th anniversary of Black History Month, a century since Woodson’s first observance aimed at highlighting African American achievements and contributions to American history.
Among the nearly four dozen participating restaurants, five are located on the West Side or nearby west suburban communities.
