SUMMARY:Kitt Lyles' Real Talk + Strings
DESCRIPTION:Kitt Lyles is one of Chicago’s most distinctive bassists and composers. Born and raised in South Carolina\, Lyles has cultivated an aesthetic that synthesizes his love for Southern roots music with imaginative contemporary jazz. His jazz septet\, “Real Talk\,” will be joined by the Prohorova String Quartet\, debuting a new set of original compositions. The new work will be woven together from fragments of ideas he has recorded over the last 15 years\, exploring themes of continuity and disconnection through time and space. The colorful orchestration will be at times cinematic; solemn; celebratory – but always grounded in Lyles’ deep sense of groove and lyricism. www.kittlylesmusic.com This event will be preceded by short Violin and Choir performances by Rasa Mahmoudian’s and Jade Maze’s Homan Square Park students from Ravinia’s Reach Teach Play education program. The Ravinia Lawndale Family Music School provides tuition-free music classes for children and adults in the Lawndale neighborhood. Interested Lawndale residents should email hbrown@ravinia.org for more information.

SUMMARY:Creative Deep Dives at Douglass Park
DESCRIPTION:For creatives looking to build community and deepen their artistic practice\, this workshop series encourages communal reflection and group collaboration. In partnership with the multidisciplinary artists of Cooperation Racine\, participants will consider a central question: “How might a creative community inform\, support\, and nourish one’s art practice.” The newly expanded Douglass Park Creative Space offers a range of equipment and tools. This series will highlight papermaking\, linocut\, sewing\, screen printing\, and book binding. Each week\, everyone is encouraged to bring their hopes\, hesitations\, frustrations\, and curiosities into the studio; these ongoing conversations will shape the trajectory of the series. \nThis is the start of a regular series of programming that will happen Thursdys\, 5-8 p.m. until Dec. 11. For those 18 years and older.

SUMMARY:The Heart of the Story at Douglass Park
DESCRIPTION:The Heart of the Story is a semi-interactive concert dance program\, featuring 8 dance artists of Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre performing several pieces from the company’s repertoire. The diversity of the repertoire offers each site customization based on the interests and identity of the community\, using dance and storytelling to present deeper concepts of identity and celebrate the complexity of the human experience. Elements of the choreography highlight the many dualities found within each of us–confidence and doubt\, strength and vulnerability\, grace and intensity. https://www.cerquarivera.org/ This evening’s show will be preceded by a special performance by the Douglass Park Performing Company (DPPC). Tonight they present “Sister Hood” (A Work in Progress)\, a powerful dance piece featuring twelve performers. This moving work celebrates the strength of sisterhood\, an unbreakable bond forged through shared struggles and unwavering support. Through expressive choreography and collective movement\, “Sister Hood” reminds us that in times of hardship\, sisters lift each other\, lean in with love\, and stand together with resilience.
