Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is inviting entrepreneurs, small business owners and aspiring founders to attend the office’s first-ever free Business Services Resource Fair, an event designed to help Illinoisans turn business ideas into real opportunities.
Hosted in partnership with state, county and city agencies, as well as private-sector business development organizations, the fair will bring together the people and resources entrepreneurs need to start, grow and sustain a successful business – all under one roof.
The Secretary of State’s Business Services Resource Fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 27 at Malcolm X College – 1900 W. Jackson Blvd., Room 1106 – in Chicago.
“Too many people with great ideas never get their business off the ground because the process can feel confusing, expensive and stacked against them,” Giannoulias said. “This fair is about cutting through the red tape, connecting entrepreneurs with the right people and resources and giving them a real roadmap to start and grow, turning the business they’ve been dreaming about into a reality. When we help small businesses succeed, we’re investing in stronger communities, more jobs and a stronger Illinois economy.”
The event is aimed at both first-time entrepreneurs and established small business owners looking to grow, access capital or better understand how to navigate the system.
At the fair, attendees will be able to learn how to register a business in Illinois, apply for a state or federal tax identification number, acquire a business license and explore funding opportunities, including loans and grants. Participants will also receive guidance on how to do business with government agencies and connect directly with organizations that support small business growth.
Admission is free, but spots are limited so registration is encouraged. To register, visit app.smartsheet.com/b/form/019d3f4caae77ba4b6349a610a098a45. For more information, visit www.ilsos.gov/departments/business-services.html.
