EPISODE 16: Chicago Flavors With a Personal Touch Featuring Chef Ora
Join Mike and Zoe discussing the power of flavor and exposure as Chef Ora prepares for her 3rd Taste of Black Excellence and how she manages a full-time meal-prep & catering business.

Join Mike and Zoe for a conversation that begins with the recent Louisiana v. Callais decision and the broader questions it raises about attacks on Black political power and representation, then pivots to another side of the story: Black excellence, creativity, and self-determination. They’re joined by the warm, knowledgeable, and dynamic culinary entrepreneur Chef Ora, founder of Urban Excellence Enterprise, whose work in food, wellness, and community care reflects a tradition of Black innovation and resilience.
Since launching the business in the wake of the pandemic, Chef Ora has continued to build momentum through her full-time catering operation and Cafe 322 Urban Bistro, while also organizing an annual celebration of Black excellence alongside fellow culinary creatives. This year’s event takes place on May 16 in Broadview. Get tickets here.
In an era when people are constantly flooded with conflicting information about what food is or isn’t healthy, many consumers rarely know the people preparing their meals. Chef Ora is offering something more personal — all-natural, non-GMO dishes prepared with care, creativity, and a genuine commitment to her clients’ wellness and enjoyment. Through her platform, The Seacret Sauce — “S-E-A” as in seamoss — she serves up everything from butter salmon and buffalo chicken to protein pizzas, cookies, smoothies, and other flavorful creations.
Chef Ora’s rise continues to gain attention, with appearances on outlets including CBS News, The Chicago Defender, and WVON. The recognition reflects not only her culinary talent but also the direct, sincere relationships she has built with clients whose lives she aims to improve.
